PASJ :Publications of the Astronomical Society of Japan

PASJ publishes research papers on all aspects of astronomy, astrophysics, and fields closely related to them.

PASJ welcome submissions from authors all over the world whether it is a member of the society. There are three types of article: paper, letter, and review. Paper is an original research paper academically valuable and no page limit. Letter to the Editor is paper which aim at quick communication of observational as well as theoretical results having strong impacts on astronomy. Letters must not exceed six pages in length. Review article is a summary, progress, and prospect for the future in specific study field, or the editorial board may invite author. PASJ also publishes collection of articles on specific topics as "special feature" or "special issue" about twice a year. List of published special features/issues. Please see the author instruction available online for the journal style, submission, and other information for authors.

For the transition to electronic publishing, we had begun the e-mail submission in 1999 and introduced the online peer-review system in 2013. The online edition has been published since 2001 in HTML and PDF format.

The bibliographic data (title, author, abstract, etc) of published articles has been archived in "NASA Astrophysics Data System" since volume 1 (1949), and the scanned PDF version of articles published in volumes 1 to 52 is also available. "Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics)" also has been archiving the bibliographic data, and they provide the impact factor in "Journal Citation Reports". Since 2014, PASJ has started a partnership with OUP for publication and subscription, and it led to the introduction of the peer-review system, a renewal of cover and print page design, the supply of DOI number, and the development of an online version.
The impact factor for 2019 is 5.024.

The Astronomical Society of Japan established "The PASJ Excellent Paper Award" in 1996. The award is presented annually to the author(s) of the most outstanding paper(s) published to PASJ. All articles published in PASJ are eligible to be considered for 5 years after publication.

PASJ is published by the responsibility of twenty-two associate editors and 9 editorial boards approved by the society.
